Roy McAlister founded The Hydrogen Association in 1964 to usher in the clean, healthful, and peaceful Renewable Resources Revolution. This revolution is founded on a scientifically validated new capacity for co-producing hydrogen fuel and solid carbon from a wide variety of organic sources—from carbohydrates to proteins to fossil fuel hydrocarbons.
With a new way to harvest hydrogen and carbon at the same time, we can transform a problem (carbon greenhouse gas emissions and carbon soot pollution) into a lucrative new business. Carbon is emerging as a new material resource for manufacturing. And the value of carbon co-harvested with hydrogen makes hydrogen production more affordable.

Roy McAlister has been a professional engineer, author, and humanitarian for over forty-five years. Roy is the inventor of Metrol, and holds over 300 patents in renewable energy.

Hydrogen is an energy carrier.
Hydrogen can be made by splitting water (H2O) into its two components: hydrogen and oxygen.
Hydrogen can also be made by splitting carbon-rich organic substances that rot or burn (such as biomass, biowaste, and hydrocarbons) in zero-emissions processes that
- use renewable energy,
- co-harvest carbon, and
- clean Earth’s atmosphere and water.
This clean hydrogen can
- fuel vehicles,
- feed fuel cells,
- run electricity generators, and
- power industrial processes.
